FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

Copyright

CAN I COPY MATERIAL OFF THE SITE WITHOUT PERMISSION?

In brief the answer is no, although we do sometimes release material for use elsewhere. If you wish to use any material off the site, please ask permission first. Using intellectual property without the owner’s permission is a criminal offence. Just to make matters more complicated, some of the material on this site is the subject to shared copyright or restrictions on its use, so you may find yourself being chased by organisations bigger than TalkHockeyRadio if you steal it.

Browsers

DO YOU RECOMMEND A BROWSER FOR VISITING THE SITE?

Most of the latest browsers are fine. However, of those we have tested, Firefox seems to give the best results, particularly when it comes to downloading podcasts. Firefox is free and is available for both Windows and Mac formats. You can find out more HERE.

Problems Downloading Podcasts

I AM HAVING DIFFICULTY DOWNLOADING A PODCAST?

Our experience is that most downloading problems can be cured by updating your browser to the latest version.

I WANT TO SAVE THE PODCAST BUT WHEN I GO TO DOWNLOAD IT, IT PLAYS STRAIGHT AWAY. HOW DO I SAVE IT?

It is possible that you have Apple’s Quicktime installed, particularly if you have iTunes on your computer. To save the file, go to the file you wish to save and right click on it with your mouse. This will open a dialogue which will say something like, ‘Save target’ or ‘Save link’. Click on this and follow the on-screen instructions to save the file.

Problems with Magazine

SOME OF THE TEXT IS JUMBLED UP OR MISSING

Ah, the web authors nightmare. Writing pages which will appear the same on every computer with every type of browser is very difficult, and you may have visited other web sites where the layout is a bit odd.  For the magazine this is a particular problem because the original version is prepared for .pdf format and then converted to HTML (the native format for web sites). We are looking at ways of making our output more consistent.

I CANNOT SEE HOW TO SAVE OR PRINT THE MAGAZINE

Presuming that you are trying to do this with the .pdf version, recent versions of Adobe Reader require you to right click on the page to access the save and print commands.

WE WILL BE ADDING MORE FAQs AS ISSUES BECOME KNOWN TO US.
